Story Forge

Requires: Scribe tier or above

Story Forge writes a complete story for you: pick a genre, set a few options, choose a Bard to write it, approve the outline, and every section is generated in order.

Accessing Story Forge

There are two ways in:

  • Generate Complete Story (on My Stories) opens the step-by-step wizard described below.
  • Pitch Story (on Pitches) starts a guided conversation: answer questions about genre, tone, characters and plot, and your answers become the story.

Step 1: Quick Start

  • Surprise Me! picks a random genre, tone and settings, for creative exploration.
  • Choose My Own walks you through each step.

Step 2: Genre & Tone

  • Genre (required): Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Romance or Science Fiction.
  • Tone (optional): shapes the storytelling mood.
ToneDescription
NeutralBalanced tone
DarkDark and gritty
WhimsicalLight and playful
GrittyRealistic and raw
HumorousComedy-focused
EpicGrand and sweeping
IntimatePersonal and close

Step 3: Story Settings

  • Title (optional): leave it blank and one is written for you.
  • Number of sections: 1 to 15.
  • Images: add a cover plus an illustration for each section.
  • Section length: a target length for each section. Word counts are estimates; the actual length varies from section to section.
  • Language: write in English or one of 14 other languages.
  • Additional instructions (optional): any guidance you want the writer to follow.

Step 4: Review & Choose Your Bard

Check your choices, then pick who writes the story. Each Bard has its own voice and its own price, shown on this step.

  • The Campfire Bard is selected by default: our own storyteller, at the gentlest price (from 1 coin per section).
  • The other Bards write in different styles, such as clear and controlled, lyrical and character-first, or pulp adventure, and cost more per section.
  • Advanced mode lets you choose a different Bard for each step of the writing.

Estimated Coins totals your sections and images before anything is charged.

Step 5: Review the Outline

Before any section is written, Story Forge drafts the outline: the title, the premise, the characters and the plan for each section. You can edit it, regenerate it, or approve it. Writing starts only when you approve.

Generation Progress

Monitor your story as it generates:

  • Progress Bar: shows overall completion
  • Section Status: each section's generation state
  • Live Updates: real-time status as sections finish
  • Cancel: stop generation if needed

Tips for Best Results

  1. Start short. A few sections are a cheap way to meet a Bard before committing to a longer story.
  2. Be specific with instructions. Tell the writer exactly what you want.
  3. Edit the outline. It's the cheapest place to change the story: fix a name or a plot point before a single section is written.
  4. Try different Bards and tones. The same idea reads very differently in each voice.

All Story Forge creations include full version history:

  • Automatic Saves: versions are created when you make significant edits
